Advanced Ceramics * Final Review

For your final review in this class, you will choose two of your pieces to compare that show your growth in a specific area. You might choose two wheel pieces, or two handbuilt pieces, or two pieces that were created by different techniques but that show your growth in color and glazing techniques. They can both be from Advanced, or the first one can be from Beginning. Bring both pieces in, and please write an approximately one-page personal assessment of your Ceramics career; be sure to include the following:

*What technique do you feel you have improved the most on in your two semesters as a ceramicist?

*What projects have you found to be the most challenging?

*What are some of the “lessons” you have learned as you have taken both Beginning and Advanced Ceramics?

*Which of your projects are you most proud of?

*Define a theme for your work in Ceramics. What has your focus been on, mostly? Surface decoration? Handbuilding techniques? Wheel work? And within that specific area, how could the viewer tell that each of your pieces is “yours”?

Hollow Forms!!

The most fun--and challenging--wheel project of the class....the Hollow Forms project! There are so many different creations you can make with hollow forms, either functional or sculptural...or a bit of both! Here are some ideas for using donut, orb and pyramid creations.

You will decide where in the range of functional to sculptural your project will be. Combine one wheel-made form with handbuilding techniques, or cut up and reassemble two or more wheel-made forms to create your project!

This is our last project for this class, so whatever you choose...HAVE FUN!!
